BAPTISM OF THE LORD
January 11, 2009
Gospel: Mark 1:7-11
“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased”
There’s always hope in the new life that Baptism brings. On the day of their child’s baptism, parents are asked the question: “Is it your will that this child should be baptized in the faith of the church which we have all professed with you?” The baptism of children is a heavy spiritual preparation for the parents, helping to make them ready to be good teachers of the faith.
In celebration of the baptism, many families have a party after the rite is performed. After one baptism, the deacon asked the father, “Are you spiritually prepared for this?” The young father quickly assured the deacon, “Oh yes, I have a full keg of beer for the party.”
