FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
7/12/09 Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Mark 6:7-13
“He began to send them out”
It is said that Jesus has no hands but our hands. As Christians and followers of Jesus, we are called to be the hands that reach out to the sick and caress the afflicted. We are also to be the voices that preach to the people. In today’s Gospel from Mark, Jesus’ teams of disciples returned to him with stories of their success at preaching, casting out demons and healing the sick. In the Gospel of Luke there is another account of Jesus sending out 72 followers and empowering them to heal the sick and preach.
As the disciples of today, we might ask if we can perform miracles. A part of the process of canonization of a saint requires that two miracles must have occurred after the prospective saint’s death. So we know that miracles do continue to happen.
The Holy Scripture is surely speaking to us today.
