TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Jesus promises us that if our faith is strong enough, we can command a sycamore tree to be uprooted and transplanted into the sea. Or, he tells us, with enough faith we can move mountains. It sounds like a job for Superman. But we’re not comic book superheroes.

Another story of faith takes place in the middle of the night during a storm on the Sea of Galilee.  The disciples are clinging to their boat in terror. Jesus walks to them across the stormy water. He summons Peter to step out onto the water. Only when Peter’s faith falters does he begin to sink.

We will know if we have faith only when the storm comes, by stepping out of the boat and keeping our eyes on Jesus.
