CHRIST THE KING
Janet Sullivan Whitaker’s powerful hymn “The Least of These” takes its message from the Gospel teachings, especially from today’s reading. The song lyrics describe the hungry, the homeless and the rejected, and then say, “All of these are my beloved. All of these are me.” The words remind us that Jesus is a lot like us – he is “Sister, Brother, and Friend,” and in them, he is right before our eyes.
In speaking to his disciples, Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, Just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me.” It is a summation of all his teachings, exhorting us to love one another as he has loved us.
