2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER
Do you believe in UFO’s? Are there aliens up there in the sky, patiently mapping our world? If you don’t believe, then how do you explain the thousands of sightings since Kenneth Arnold first reported a saucer in 1947? Arnold wasn’t the first. There were lots of other reported sightings before that. The oldest account of a saucer-shaped object is from 1290 when a silver disc was reported flying over a village in Yorkshire, England.
Still, despite the claims, most of us wouldn’t really believe unless a UFO landed in front of our house, flopped down its boarding ramp, and the pilot creature walked up and said hello. It’s simply beyond our experience.
This might help us understand why Thomas had such trouble believing that Jesus was resurrected from the dead. We may aspire tobe like the faith filled disciples who saw Jesus in the upper room. But many of us are a lot like Thomas when he declared that he would not believe the resurrection story until Jesus stood before him. And he wanted even further proof by putting his fingers into Jesus’ wounds.
