18TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

18TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Even if you ate 62 hot dogs in one sitting, you would soon be hungry again.

Last summer, Joey “Jaws” chestnut won the 97th annual Nathan’s Famous July Fourth International Hot Dog Eating Contest, held in Coney Island, N.Y., when he wolfed down 62 hot dogs in only 10 minutes. For this 2011 achievement he racked up his fifth win in the gluttonous contest. As a competitive eater, Joey is an eating machine, with many other records under his belt. He has won other contests by eating 241 chicken wings, 103 burgers, 78 matzo balls, 45 slices of pizza and 380 wontons.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us, “Do not work for the food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life.” He goes on to say that he is the Bread of Life, and if we partake of this bread from heaven, we will never be hungry.
