27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The pope recently described marriage as “an asset for the spouses, for the children, for the church, and for all of mankind.”  In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “What God has joined together, let no one separate.”  But despite many wonderful and enduring marriages, for many complex reasons, strong, stable marriages seem to be in trouble in today’s society.

A recent survey found that nearly four out of 10 Americans view marriage as obsolete. About 60 percent of U.S. couples live together before marriage – up from 10 percent in the 1960’s. The changing concept of family, as reflected in television and movies, seems to be “anything goes.”  How can we reaffirm this treasure today?
