PALM SUNDAY
Fleeting popularity is heady stuff. The current deluge of talent shows on television produces new stars and idols faster than we can remember their names. Some may enjoy lasting careers. But for others, it may just be their 15 minutes of fame.
As Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the crowds were cheering. He was at the height of his popularity and success. Surely the kingdom was at hand. If Jesus had opted for the worldly kingdom of Israel, his fame would have ended in the forgotten pages of history, just another “15 minutes of fame” king. But Jesus’ kingdom was not to be of this world. He chose the kingdom of heaven, and his reign is without end.
