If you want confirmation that Jesus was right when he talked about the tiny mustard seed, head on down to the Golden Arches and start with McDonald’s.

In 1965, when McDonald’s corporation went public, common shares were $22.50. If you had purchased 100 shares for $2,250 then, your investment would be worth nearly 6 million dollars today. That’s 2,667 to one. Not bad by any measure!

In today’s Gospel story, Jesus compared the kingdom of God to the tiny mustard seed that grows up to be the greatest of shrubs. So just how great is the shrub of our Catholic faith?

The tiny mustard seed of the Catholic church was planted with 12 disciples, and it has since grown to 1.2 billion members today. That’s a billion-to-one growth factor.
