2nd SUNDAY OF EASTER

A few months ago, some folks were concerned about the so-called Mayan Apocalypse. Whenever there is an end of the world prediction, there are always people who believe it. They buy flashlights and lay in supplies. But most of us are like Thomas: We’re too smart to fall for things like that.
When news came that Jesus had risen from the dead, Thomas said he wouldn’t believe it unless he put his fingers inside the wounds on Jesus’ body. His pride instantly fell away when he proved it for himself. Thomas was weak-kneed before the risen Lord.
Today’s Gospel warns us that we may tend to identify with Thomas in our prideful need to have absolute proof. Jesus warns us: “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
