THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
January 24, 2010 The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” Sometimes we hear the word, but just don’t understand. The people in the synagogue did not recognize that Jesus was talking about himself when he declared that he was the fulfillment of the scripture he had just read to them. They didn’t understand. It’s like the story of the talkative wife who was told by the doctor, “Your husband needs quiet and rest. Here are some sleeping pills.” Putting the pills in her purse, she asked, “When should I give them to him?” The doctor explained, “The pills are for you.”
