SOLEMNITY OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

An old man named Otto prayed every week that God would let him win the lottery.  Otto dreamed of getting a phone call from the lotter office.  People even began to give him the nickname “Lotto” because winning was all he could talk about.  But his phone never rang.  After years of fervent prayer and no phone calls from the lottery office, he finally told God that he was giving up.  Otto said he had lost all faith and was even leaving the church.  That night, in a dream, God compassionately said, “Otto, give me a break, you have to buy a tickeet first!”  In todays Gospel, the disciples must have thought they’d won the loaves and fishes lottery.  Starting out with just five loaves of bread and two fish, they witnessed an unbelievable miracle.  But in this lottery, everybody won in a free outpouring of God’s bountiful care.  The bounty continues today as we experience the miracle of the Eucharist at this Mass.
