TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
We’ve all heard the jokes that start out, “I’ve got good news and bad news. Which do you want first?” There’s one joke about two friends in the nursing home who spent hours reminiscing about their days playing baseball. They made a pact that the first one who died would come back to tell the other if there was baseball in heaven. So it happened. “The good news,” said the ghostly messenger to her living friend, “is that they have baseball up here. We play everyday, the weather is always fantastic and we’re all young again.” The bad news? ” You’re pitching on Tuesday.” On a more serious note, Jesus has both bad news and good news. He must die, and so must we. But the good news is that together with him we will live forever.
