3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER

4/26/09 Third Sunday of Easter

Gospel: Luke 24: 35-48

“Thus it was written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.”

Today’s Gospel tells us the story of two disciples walking on the road who are joined by Jesus. Why didn’t they recognize him? Was it because he was in disguise, or was it because their minds were not ready yet?

We are all on the road to Emmaus, at first blinded by despair, still learning to recognize that Jesus is right there on the road with us. He opens our minds and hearts to know that the sufferings of our own lives are in fact the path to glory. We see him and one another in the love revealed in the scriptures and in the breaking of the bread.
