FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

If anyone ever asks you how many beatitudes Matthew’s Jesus preached in his Sermon on the Mount, the answer is eight.  You can memorize all eight beatitudes by chopping them in half. The first four can be recalled by using one word for each: poor, mourn, meek, and hungry. The last four beatitudes “mercifully” have three “P” words in a row: pure, peacemakers and persecuted.  If you make it an eight word sentence you will have the beatitudes forever with you. You can be there on the mountain with Jesus listening to him, “Blessed are the poor, those who mourn, the meek, and those who hunger. Blessed are the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and the persecuted.”
