PENTECOST
Comedian Mel Brooks created a character known as the 2,000 year old man. Fellow comic Carl Reiner would interview him, asking such questions as, “What is the secret of your longevity?” Brooks would reply, “I don’t touch fried food.”
Today we celebrate another 2,000 year old reality – the church. If we were asked what is the secret of the church’s longevity, the answer would have nothing to do with avoiding fried food. We are still here because of the words of the resurrected Jesus. Addressing the disciples in the upper room, he breathed on them and filled them with the Holy Spirit. That same Spirit fills each and every one of us.
