3RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The legendary Lost Dutchman Gold Mine is said to be hidden in the Superstition Mountains near Apache Junction, Ariz. The mine got its name in the 1870’s, when a body was discovered in the desert along with saddlebags filled with gold. One writer estimates that as many as 8,000 seekers still try to find the gold each year.
Eight hundred years before Jesus, Isaiah proclaimed that he brought glad tidings, healing and liberty. And like hidden gold, that 800 year old prophecy waited to be discovered. No one could find it. In today’s Gospel, the glittering Jesus announces that he is the fulfillment and the diadem of gladness. He brings the golden treasure of eternal life.
