Pope says ‘no’ to violence against children, women in conflicts
“Pope Francis fully supports the commitment to respect for human rights in the world and is particularly associated with those who work to end violence against children and women in conflicts.” The observation was made on Friday by Argentina’s ambassador to the United Nations, Maria Cristina Perceval, in an interview to Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, not long after she and three other women met Pope Francis in the Vatican. She said they talked with the Pope about the culture of respect, reconciliation, tolerance, peace and that those responsible for crimes should not go unpunished. Percival also told the Pope that most often the victims of violence in conflicts are the most helpless – children, women, the poor, ethnic minorities and religions. The Pope insisted that these victims, rather than being blamed and discriminated against should be helped to re-integrated into their families and the society. (Source: AGI)
