SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

1/18/09        Gospel: John 1:35-42

“They saw where he was staying and they stayed with him”

John’s Gospel today holds a simple summary of how we come to faith.  The disciples follow Jesus.  They ask where he lives, and he invites them to “come and see.”  They then stay with him.

“Come and See” is the great invitation of Jesus.  We’re curious, and we come in wide-eyed wonder to see what Jesus offers.  Just as the fishermen left their boats to follow Christ, down through the centuries missions have turned their faces toward that invitation to come and see the wonders the Lord has prepared.
