FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
Jesus wept. His human frailty was laid bare. The death of his friend and the tears of Martha and Mary overwhelmed him. In the Gospel story, Jesus is “greatly disturbed” as he approaches the tomb. Perhaps, for Jesus, the death of Lazarus, the entombment of his body and his rising is a powerful foreshadowing of what will come quickly for Jesus with his own death, burial and resurrection. He knows that his life, his friends, his time here on Earth will soon come rushing to an end. Unable to stop it, Jesus thanks his Father for having heard his cry for Lazarus, and ultimately for himself.
