TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
October 11, 2009 Twenty Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Mark 10:17-30
A rich man was dying, and when an angel appeared to tell him it was time to go, he pleaded with the angel to let him take one piece of luggage. The angel agreed, so the man got out his biggest suitcase and filled it with gold bullion. When he got to the Pearly Gates, another angel checked his bag and burst out laughing. “You brought paving blocks?” the angel said. The rich man could have gone to heaven even while he was on earth if he had known that earthly wealth alone does not bring joy. Jesus offered him the change to “lighten up,” but he was too attached to his possessions to see that this would have set him free.
