28th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
In an old episode of “The Simpsons,” Superintendent Chalmers is fired, and Principal Skinner is promoted. The Springfield school board needs to find a new principal. It’s not likely they would hire just anyone off the street to run Springfield Elementary – would they? When Homer Simpson becomes principal, he dresses as an educator in suit, vest, bow tie and half-lens glasses on a chain around his neck. He looks the part, but we all know it’s hapless Homer on his way to another disaster.
In today’s Gospel, a guest is found without the required wedding robe. He is thrown out of the feast. The story warns us to be clad in faith each time we come to Mass. We might be wearing our Sunday best, but without our robe of faith and good works, will we be prepared to take our place at the eternal banquet?
